Creating a Simple Cottage Garden

Perhaps you have seen pictures of those quaint little cottages with the beautiful rambling gardens. At some point, you have probably wondered how it is done. Well, that wonderfully organised chaos is actually easier than you think. All you need is a little imagination and some planning to get you on your way.

Begin by bordering your garden area with a picket fence. Or you may place some accent railing to display climbing roses or vines if a whole enclosure is not an option.

Once the space is secured, design a walk from your gate to your front door. An arched trellis is the most suitable for cottages. You can still have it even if you have a fence.

Next, make sure your flower bed is prepared with organic material to help enrich the soil. Pick easy to grow flowers like English and Heritage roses. These blossoms are considered to be staples for a cottage garden.

Lastly, place low maintenance plants towards the back of your growing zone. That way, the ones that need more steady attention are easy to reach and remember because they are planted in the front row.
